Integration Assignment Esha Chakraborti Adler University Integration Assignment Exploring Gottman Method Couple Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Individual Therapy, there are a similarities and differences for using both theories as a counsellor working with couples and families. As a counsellor with knowledge of both theories, one can integrate and adapt case conceptualization to meet the needs of diverse clients. For this paper, I will be examining the diversity within couples and families through the lens of intercultural marriage. Biever, Bobele and North (1998) stated that the term intercultural represents a broader range of cultural variables on which couples differ, in particular differences within race, ethnicity and/or religion. For this paper, the specific diversity emphasis is with two clients each from a different races, different religion, or different ethnicities merging to form a relationship. According to McFadden’s (2001) literature review there is a trend towards an increase in the number of intercultural people in the United States. As there is a trend towards it is very important to be aware of how a counsellor may adapt therapy to suit this clientele. McFadden (2001) reviewed that children of intercultural couples face struggles in their daily lives, as they become socially isolated and not part of a defined group.
